Q: I am planning a permanent move to live closer to the Australian east coast. I have always had an interest in the sea and would like to try any work as a diver or similar.

What do I need to do to secure the required licence to work as a diver?

A: There are many accredited training centres throughout Australia. There are courses available through the Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) that will cover everything from recreational diving through to offshore training and accreditation.

Find out more at the ADAS website, adas.org.au, or phone (02) 6689 5656; or try the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (Asia Pacific), padi.com, (02) 9454 2888.

Be aware there may be career opportunities related to other marine fields, particularly in areas such as tourism, exploration and sciences. Don't restrict your research to a narrow band of job searches.
